The Magic of Ireland

I am Anita a Finnish midwife and nurse. I gave up my hospital worker a year ago and am now as a counselling nurse over the phone. I am living with my husband and my three pugs in a small town on the west-coast of Finland. I have two adult sons who live with their spouses in another town.

I want to thank my husband who understands my need of an annual Ireland fix including a walking holiday. I am so grateful to him that my need of this “me-time” isn’t any problem for him.

In my spare time I like to exercise, walk with my dogs, run a little with a friend of mine and go to the gym. But I also love to just take it easy, reading a good book.

There has been a special place in my heart and mind for Ireland from the first time I put my feet on Irish soil. And when I realised the best way to experience this beautiful country is to walk and hike it and to spend time in the gorgeous nature, it has been a must every year. I think I did my 13th tour with this company and my 15th trip to Ireland this year.

Vacation time

Coming here is the best and most relaxing way to have a vacation for me. It is my own time away from work, pots and pans and all everyday duties. It is my way to charge batteries for a long winter.  Spending it on a walking holiday organised by Ireland Walk Hike Bike gives me the freedom to just enjoy and take it in, everything is well planned and done, it is just to arrive and enjoy. You get both exercise and the beauty of the nature at the same time. My preferred option is to take part in a guided walking holiday. The guides have the knowledge of the trails, the sudden change of weather and when it is best to alter the trail for a safer one or dryer one or a bit easier one. For me it is important to feel safe on the trails but it has to be a bit of a challenge too, not too easy. And the feeling afterwards you have managed to walk/hike up a steep hill or a tough trail, it is just great.

The Magic of Ireland for me is: green fields, hills, the sea, the waves crushing to the cliffs, the rain – sometimes horizontal, the burning sunshine in my face, the strong winds dancing in my hair, the fog, the sheep, the down-to-earth people in small villages, the pubs, the food, the traditional music sessions, not to forget the local B&B’s with lovely, friendly and caring owners.

Living on the hope to return again next year for a new walking holiday with Ireland Walk, Hike and Bike, until then Thanks for being there!!!

Anita
