Whats all this talk about Little Christmas?
Each year on January 6th Little Christmas or also known as Nollaig na mBan (Womens Christmas) is the official end of all things Christmas!
But what is it?
Well, on the Christian calendar the day is called the Feast of the Epiphany, the day when the three wise men are said to have arrived at the stable in Bethlehem to visit the baby Jesus.
But traditionally here in Ireland, it’s the day the decorations come down. Not a day before or after as bad luck would prevail! Ah Piseogs! (That’s another blog post in itself!) Once the decorations are down its time for the women to start celebrating or relaxing to get a much-needed rest and recharge after catering to everyone else during the festivities!
In Ireland while the tradition has died out in many places it is still prevalent in Cork & Kerry. I guess that means il be off celebrating tonight once the decorations are down!
Only 352 more sleeps to next Christmas!
