Linda’s Favourite West Cork Hikes trip brings you to an area in the south west of Ireland that few visitors take the time to explore. With glorious hills and mountains, an array of ancient coastal tracks and some wonderful islands, the hiking here is unsurpassed. You will visit the remote Sheep’s Head Lighthouse, travel on Ireland’s only cable car to Dursey Island, explore the grounds of Bantry House and more on this wonderful 5 Day hiking trip. Our Guide will take you to the highlights of these 2 amazing, undiscovered peninsulas on the southern end of the Wild Atlantic Way.

Day 1 - Castletownbere
Arrive to Castletownbere where your holiday begins. Meet your guide & your other group members (max 8 people) and enjoy an evening meal together as your Guide briefs you on the coming days (2 overnights here).
Meals: Dinner (D)
Day 2 - Dursey Sound
After a short drive (25 mins) you reach Dursey Sound where you take the Cable Car across to Dursey Island. Enjoy a wonderful hike around this glorious place, rich in history and boasting 8 inhabitants. Return to the mainland and visit the remains of Dunboy Castle on your way back to your accommodation.

Day 3 - Bantry
Enjoy hearing stories of the rich history that makes Bantry Bay so famous as you drive (approx. 50 mins) to reach Bantry town. After some free time here, you then start your hike along the spine of hills that make up the Sheeps Head Peninsula. With stunning views to Ireland’s most southerly point, Mizen Head, you reach your accommodation for your next 2 nights in the quaint little village of Kilcrohane.

Day 4 - Sheep's Head Peninsula
Hiking to the western tip of the Sheeps Head Peninsula today, you will be in awe of the wonderful landscapes and vistas that surround you. Passing an operational lighthouse, you will have the opportunity to visit the ancient Signal Tower that originally acted like an early lighthouse. With an opportunity to feast on the best tea & apple pie in the region at the end of your hike, you will be happy to linger as long as possible.

Day 5 - Bantry
After breakfast, your Guide will drive you to Bantry where your holiday ends. From here, you can avail of the excellent bus service to all major towns, cities & airports in Ireland.


Moderate hikes each day – A reasonable level of fitness is required with the ability to handle elevations changes during each hike.
