Our Guide Assisted Beara Way Hike is a magnificent 206km hiking trail that circum-navigates this glorious peninsula – one of Ireland’s hidden treasures that (so far) is relatively undiscovered. This Guide Assisted holiday will give you the opportunity to enjoy magnificent land and sea-scapes, immerse yourself into the raw nature that surrounds you and enjoy the sea mist coming in off the wild Atlantic Ocean as you hike your way around this ancient land. Choosing from 3 different distances to hike each day this is the perfect way to enjoy a hiking tour for people of all fitness levels.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrive to Glengarriff
Arrive to the town of Glengarriff where your holiday begins. Meet your guide, your other group members (max 8 people) and settle into your first accommodation. Your guide will brief the group on your holiday and the next days hiking options. Enjoy an evening at your leisure with great dining options to suit all tastes.
Day 2 - Caha Mountains
Hiking along the foothills of the Caha Mountains, you will have glorious views across Bantry Bay to the Sheeps Head Peninsula further south. This is a stunning hike that takes you through time, from ancient routes through the mountains to modern day living as you return to Glengarriff for your 2nd overnight. If time allows, you may wish to visit the beautiful Garinish Island after your hike.

Total Distances: Route 1: 16.7km | Route 2: 13.7km | Route 3: 5.7km
Day 3 - Bere Island
Leaving Glengarriff & travelling west today you reach the town of Castletownbere. From here, a short journey by ferry takes you across to the beautiful & historic Bere Island. Enjoy your hike around this glorious place before returning to Castletownbere for your overnight.

Total Distances: Route 1: 19km | Route 2: 13km | Route 3: 11.5km | Route 4: 4.5km
Day 4 - Dursey Island
Leaving Castletownbere behind you, you travel across to the northern side of the peninsula to reach the village of Allihies. From here, you hike west to reach the magnificent Dursey Sound. This hike offers wonderful views to the north of the Ring of Kerry & south to Mizen Head – Ireland’s most southerly point. Return to Allihies for your next 2 overnights.

Total Distances: Route 1: 13km | Route 2: 10.5km | Route 3: 3km
Day 5 - Dursey Sound
A short transfer from Allihies to Dursey Sound takes you to one of the most stunning hikes imaginable. Today you take a Cable Car (the only one in Ireland!!) to Dursey Island and hike around this beautiful island. Those that wish, can hike west as far as land will take you. This is also a super place to see whales & dolphins as they journey along our western shores north or south depending on the time of year. Return to Allihies for your 2nd overnight.

Total Distances: Route 1: 16km | Route 2: 12km | Route 3: 6.5km
Day 6 - Allihies to Eyeries
Leaving Allihies this morning, your hike takes you east passing dis-used Copper Mines and along the shores to the village of Eyeries. Your Guide will fill you with stories of the fascinating history on this hike before you set off. The ancient Copper Mines & the legendary Hag of Beara are two things that will inspire your imagination during your hike. Overnight in the heritage town of Kenmare.

Total Distances: Route 1: 17km | Route 2: 13km | Route 3: 6km
Day 7 - Gleninchaquin Valley
Your final hike takes you to the magnificent Gleninchaquin Valley where you can enjoy a choice of hikes in this wonderful place. Overlooking the beautiful lake and with views north across the Cloonee Lakes to the Kenmare River, this stunning & ancient landscape comes alive in all its beauty. At the end of your hike, you return to Kenmare for your final overnight.

Day 8 - Depart from Killarney
Your holiday finishes after a beautiful breakfast this morning. From Kenmare, your Guide will offer a transfer to the town of Killarney from where you can avail of the excellent bus & train services to all major towns, cities & airports in Ireland. Estimated arrival time to Killarney is 10am.
